I was actually thinking of "otiose", meaning lazy, more or less. I totally forget where I heard it from, maybe NPR's Wait Wait Don't Tell Me! program (if you've never listened to it, it is really funny and has a lot of good trivia/vocabulary/random facts). *stamps "NERD" on forehead*
